MARIETTA, Ga. – The Talladega College men's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches 3-0 to both Webber International University and Life University today. The Tornadoes fall to 3-22 on the season while Webber is now 9-1 and Life is 16-9.
Talladega is back in action on Wednesday, April 3 when it hosts Life University at 7 p.m.
Match 1: Talladega 0, Webber International 3 (6-25, 17-25, 18-25)
The Warriors took an early 3-1 lead in the opening set, but Talladega cut the lead to two and trailed, 4-2. Webber after that broke the set open to go on to a 25-6 victory.
Webber again jumped out to an 11-5 lead in set two. Talladega attempted to chip away at the lead as it came within seven to trail, 17-10. The Warriors closed the set out on an 8-7 run to win 25-17 and go up 2-0 in the match.
Looking to push the match to a fourth set, Talladega took a 6-3 lead in the third set. The Tornadoes were able to push their lead to 10-8, but Webber used a 6-1 run to take a 14-11 lead. After taking the lead the Warriors went on to win 25-18 and win the match, 3-0.
Mallik Foreman led Talladega in kills with six while
Hugo Marques and
Denzel Pepper each finished with five.
Elijah Foster tallied 17 assists and teammate
Andrea Tognazzo recorded 12 digs for the Tornadoes.
Match 2: Talladega 0, Life 3 (16-25, 19-25, 15-25)
With set one tied at two, Life used an 8-3 run to take a 10-5 lead. The Running Eagles were able to put some distance between them and Talladega as they pushed their lead to, 21-12. Both teams traded points but with Life holding a strong lead it was able to hold off the Tornadoes and claim the 25-16 win in the set.
The Running Eagles jumped out to a 6-3 lead in set two, but a 3-1 run by Talladega made it a two-point set. The Tornadoes looked to keep the set close but with the momentum on Life's side, Talladega was not able to overcome it and fell 25-19 in the set.
Life took a 6-1 to start the third set as it looked to close the match out in three. Talladega worked its way back into it to trial 9-7, but the Running Eagles broke things open with an 11-3 run to go up, 20-10. After that Life was able to go on to a 25-15 win.
Denzel Pepper finished with seven kills for Talladega while Marques led all Tornadoes with three aces and eight digs to go along with his five kills.
Foster finished with 16 assists to pace Talladega.
