Softball Drops DH to Tuskegee

OXFORD, Ala. – In a battle of in-state opponents, the Talladega College softball team dropped fell in both games of a doubleheader to the Tuskegee University Golden Tigers Tuesday at Chocolocco Park. Tuskegee won the first matchup 12-0 in six innings and the second game 9-2.
 
GAME 1 – Tuskegee 12, Talladega 0
 
First contest belonged all the way to the NCAA Division II Golden Tigers. After scoring a run in the second, Tuskegee posted three runs in the third, three more in the fourth, and exploded for six runs in the sixth on the way to a 12-0 victory.
 
Despite the offensive struggles, both Ashli-Nicole Gutierrez and Elisa Clay finished 1-for-2 at the plate.
 
Gutierrez also pitched all six innings with a pair of strikeouts, and allowed 11 hits, 0 earned runs and a pair of walks.
 
GAME 2 – Tuskegee 9, Talladega 2
 
After a quiet first inning, the Golden Tigers posted five runs in the second inning capped by a two-RBI triple by Jessica Morales to push the lead to 5-0.
 
The Tornadoes answered in the fourth with two runs starting with smart base running by Rayna Davis or scored on an error. Brooklyn Talton followed with an RBI-single up the middle to plate Eliza Clay and cut the lead to 5-2.
 
However, Tuskegee scored a tun in the fifth and added two more in the seventh to push to the 9-2 final margin.
 
Davis led at the plate with a 2-for-3 effort with a walk and a run scored. Haylee Clausell posted a 2-for-4 line in her at-bats.
 
Miranda Butler pitched five innings in the loss with 10 hits allowed and four earned runs. Gabrielle Garcia went two innings with four hits and two earned runs.
 
Talladega College returns to action Thursday for a doubleheader against Fort Valley (Ga.) State University on Thursday starting at noon locally.
