BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Talladega College men's volleyball team dropped a road match 3-0 (15-25, 22-25, 15-25) to King University this afternoon. The Tornadoes are now 3-19 while King is 4-14 on the season.
King took a 12-4 lead in the opening set, but Talladega chipped away at the lead, but it wasn't enough as King kept the Tornadoes at distance leading, 15-7. King closed the set out on a 10-8 run to win 25-15 and go up 1-0 in the match.
Looking to bounce back in set two, Talladega wasted no time to take a 6-3 lead. King later tied things at seven off a 4-1 run and from that point on both teams went back and forth to later be knotted at 17. Back-to-back kills by King put it in front, 19-17. Talladega and King traded points with King holding the edge to pick up a 25-22 win and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
King looked to close the match out headed into the third set as it took a 10-4 lead. Talladega attempted to climb back into the set but the lead was too much to overcome as King went on to a 25-15 win to take the set and match.
Mallik Foreman and
Denzel Pepper each tallied six kills to pace Talladega. Teammates
Ahmon Catlin,
Ivory Smith, and Elijah each finished four kills apiece. Foster also led the team in assists with 22.
Foster and
Ty'Sean Wallace each finished with a .500 hitting percentage for the match.
Andrea Tognazzo finished the day with seven digs to the Tornadoes.
Talladega is back on the road Tuesday, March 19 when it travels to Emmanuel University for a 6 p.m. (7 p.m. ET) match.
