TALLADEGA, Ala. – The Talladega College baseball team extended its winning streak to three games with an 8-1 victory this afternoon against the visiting University of Tennessee Southern. With the win, the Tornadoes closed out the 11-game homestand with a 9-2 mark. Talladega is now 13-10 on the season while Firehawks are now 7-15.
Talladega got on the board in the bottom of the first when it plated two runs on three hits to take an early 2-0 lead.
After both teams went scoreless for the next two innings, the Firehawks cut the lead in half when it plated one run on no hits in the top of the fourth.
The Tornadoes in their half of the fourth looked to get the run back and give themselves some breathing room. It started when
Armando Jackson reached first on an error by the second baseman with one down. Following a popout to second for the second out,
Eddie Velazquez parked a two-run home run over the left field wall to push the Talladega lead to 4-1 before the inning ended.
Talladega added to its lead with a pair of runs in the fifth, a run in the sixth, and a run in the seventh to go up 8-1 headed to the top of the eighth.

Jack Woods didn't allow a base runner to reach throughout the last two innings to help Talladega secure the victory.
Starting pitcher
Daniel Jose picked up his third win (3-0) of the year. He allowed two hits and one run (unearned) for seven innings of work. He struck out seven in the process.
Velazquez finished the day going 1-for-2 with two RBIs, two runs scored, a walk, and a home run for the Tornadoes.

Victor Rivera, and Fernandez each tallied two hits. Rivera and Dominguez each had a double. Dominguez also tallied two RBIs.
Talladega is back in action on Friday, March 15 when it travels to Lawrenceville, Georgia to face Georgia Gwinnett College. Both teams met earlier this season with the Grizzles pulling out the 2-1 victory. First pitch on Friday is set for 5 p.m.
