Softball Drops DH against #16 MGA

COCHRAN. Ga. – The Talladega College softball team hit the road for a doubleheader against the nationally-ranked Middle Georgia State University Knights. However, the Tornadoes dropped both games Friday afternoon at Knights Field. MGA, ranked 16th in the nation, won the first contest 7-1 and the second matchup 2-0.
 
GAME 1 – Middle Georgia 7, Talladega 1
 
After the Knights jumped to a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the third, Dega responded in the top of the sixth with a solo homer from Rayna Davis to cut the margin to 2-1.
 
MGA responded in the bottom of the sixth with five runs capped by a two-RBI single by Alexis Cosgrove to move the score to the final 7-1 tally.
 
Elisa Clay posted a solid performance at the plate as she went 2-for-3 with a double. Davis finished 1-for-3 with the home run. Marianna Perez posted a stolen base.
 
Miranda Butler (0-1) pitched all six innings with only one earned run, a walk and nine hits allowed.
 
Beth Eddins (1-0) pitched a complete game for the Knights with seven strikeouts and an earned run allowed.
 
GAME 2 – Middle Georgia 2, Talladega 0
 
Neither team had much offense in the day's second game, as there were seven hits between the squads and no scoring until the fifth.
 
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Morgan Windham put the Knights on the board with a two-RBI single, which was enough to collect the 2-0 win.
 
Ashli-Nicole Gutierrez and Davis both collected hits in the loss.
 
Gutierrez (0-1) threw six innings with four strikeouts while surrendering a walk and two earned runs.
 
Madisyn Riggins pitched a complete game for MGA with nine strikeouts, allowing three walks and a pair of hits.
 
Talladega College returns to action tomorrow at noon in Atlanta, Georgia, for a doubleheader against Clark Atlanta University.
