Softball Falls in DH at Clark Atlanta

ATLANTA – The Talladega College softball team traveled to Lady Panthers Field to face Clark Atlanta University on Saturday afternoon, where CAU claimed both games of the doubleheader series. The Lady Panthers won the first matchup 2-0 and the second contest 6-2.
 
GAME 1 – Clark Atlanta 2, Talladega 0
 
Both teams combined for 11 hits (six for CAU and five for Dega), but only two runs were scored, and both came early.
 
Jazmin Scott scored on a sacrifice bunt by Maliyah Ward in the first, and Kenedie Matthews posted an RBI triple in the second to lift Clark Atlanta to a 2-0 win to start the day.
 
Gabriele Garcia led Talladega at the plate as she went 2-for-3. Ashli-Nicole Gutierrez posted a double after going 1-for-3 in her at-bats.
 
Miranda Butler hurled four innings in the start with three strikeouts, allowing six hits and two earned runs. Gutierrez pitched two innings in relief, struck out two batters, and allowed two walks.
 
Jayla Hill threw a complete game for Clark Atlanta and posted five strikeouts with five hits allowed.
 
GAME 2 – Clark Atlanta 6, Talladega 2
 
CAU scored three runs in the bottom of the first, capped by an RBI single from Coreya Quarterman to go up 3-0.
 
Rayna Davis responded with her second solo home run of the weekend, this time to left field, to cut the lead to 3-1 in the second inning.
 
The Lady Panthers' offense provided some distance in the middle innings with two runs in the third and another in the fourth to go up 6-1.
 
Dega closed the gap slightly in the seventh with an RBI for Garcia that saw Marianna Perez score to cut the tally to the final 6-2 margin.
 
Davis finished the game 2-for-4 with the RBI and run scored off the home run. Elisa Clay also went 2-for-4 at the plate. Monet Brown stole her second base of the season in the contest.
 
Butler went three innings in her second appearance in the circle on the day with three strikeouts while surrendering five hits, five earned runs, and two walks. Gutierrez also pitched three innings with a strikeout and allowed three hits, one earned run, and a walk.
 
Quarterman threw a complete game and racked up three strikeouts. She allowed five walks, four hits, and two earned runs.
 
Talladega College returns to action Tuesday at home for the time this season against Rust College for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
