TALLADEGA, Ala. – The Talladega College men's volleyball team fell 3-0 (23-25, 21-25, 12-25) to Fort Valley State University tonight at home.
Tied at six in the opening set, FVSU (3-3) used a 4-0 run to take a 10-6 lead, but Talladega was able to score back-to-back points to come within two. Both teams went back and forth with FVSU holding a two-point advantage before scoring three straight points to push the lead to, 14-9. Talladega (2-6) was able to stay with FVSU for most of the set and cut the lead to, 24-23. FVSU was able to win the set off a Tornado attack error.
Trailing 7-4 in set two, Talladega used a 4-1 run to tie the set at eight. Each team found themselves tied three more times but the Tornadoes grabbed its first lead of the set and match when it scored back-to-back points to go up, 13-11. For most of the set, both teams were either tied or Talladega held a slight lead. But FVSU tallied two straight points to tie things at 19 before going on to use a 6-2 run to win the set, 25-21.
FVSU took a commanding 12-4 lead in the third set, but Talladega attempted to climb back in but the lead was too much to overcome. FVSU was able to secure the set and the match with a 25-12 win in set three.
Mallik Foreman finished with 12 kills for Talladega while
Elijah Foster registered 24 assists.
Andrea Tognazzo tallied two of the Tornadoes' four aces while adding nine digs. Teammate
Ivory Smith paced the team with 13 digs.
Talladega is on the road on Friday when it travels to Missouri S&T to face the Miners at 7 p.m.
