TALLADEGA, Ala. – The Talladega College men's basketball team picked up its 18
th win of the season with an 82-49 win over Tuskegee University tonight at home. The Tornadoes are now 18-4 overall on the year while Tuskegee is now 9-13.
The Golden Tigers opened the game up with a 9-3 lead on Talladega before
Lamont Sams and
Wilfred Campbell hit back-to-back three-pointers to tie things at nine. Both teams went back and forth to find themselves tied at 15 before
D'Andre Boyd gave Talladega a 17-15 lead off a layup with 9:26 left. His layup sparked a 29-7 run to put the Tornadoes up 44-22 lead at halftime.
Coming out of halftime, Talladega continued its offensive run as Campbell hit a pair of free throws to start the scoring. The Tornadoes didn't let their foot off the gas as they pushed its lead to 64-32 to force the Golden Tigers to call timeout with 11:31 left in the game. The timeout didn't change anything for Tuskegee as Talladega controlled the rest of the game to go on to grab the 82-49 win.
Tonight's game is the fourth-lowest-scoring game by an opponent this season. The lowest number of points allowed this season was 36 against Oakwood University back on Dec 2.
Talladega scored 32 points in the paint to the Golden Lions 18 while the Tornadoes bench tallied 34 points to their 13.
Campbell led Talladega in points with 15 while tying for the team-high in threes made with four. He also dished out a game-high five assists.
Corey Sands registered 12 points all on three-pointers for the Tornadoes. He tied with Campbell in threes made with four. Teammate Sams finished with 13 points while going 6-of-8 from the field and grabbing three boards.
Shaun Walker grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for Talladega. He added five points in the process.
Talladega is back in action on Saturday, Feb 10 when it travels to face GCAC foe Fisk University. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m.
