JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Talladega College men's volleyball team fell on the road this afternoon 3-1 (25-19, 17-25, 25-27, 21-25) to Edward Waters University. The Tornadoes dropped to 2-11 on the season while the Tigers are now 3-5.
Trailing 3-2 in the opening set, Talladega took a 5-4 lead off a 3-1 run. Both teams went back and forth with the Tigers holding an 8-7 edge, but it wouldn't last as the Tornadoes used a 7-0 run to go up, 14-8. Talladega after that never looked back as it grabbed a 25-19 win in the set.
Talladega took an early 3-2 lead in set two, but the Tigers came right back to go in front, 5-4. Both teams traded points to find themselves knotted at nine. Edward Waters broke the set open with an 11-4 run to go up, 20-13, and then later took the set 25-17 to tie the match at one.
The Tornadoes looking to bounce back in set three started things off with a 4-1 lead, but three straight points by the Tigers tied things at four. For the third straight set, both teams traded points but this time Talladega found itself in front, 7-6. For the remainder of set three, each team went back and forth either in front or tied or behind by just a few points. With The Tigers in front at 20-18, the Tornadoes used a 3-0 run to go up 21-20. After that both teams found themselves tied three different times with the last time being at 25. Having to win by two, the Tigers used a kill and an ace to win the set 27-25.
Talladega looked to tie the match up in set four as it took an early 7-3 lead. The Tornadoes were able to push its lead to 11-5, but the Tigers chipped away to pull within one and trail, 15-14. Edward Waters after that was able to use an 11-6 run to take the set 25-21 and win the match.
Mallik Foreman led Talladega in kills with 14 while teammates
Hugo Marques tallied 11 and
Denzel Pepper finished with 10.
Elijah Foster registered a team-highs in assists with 38 and aces with three for the Tornadoes while
Andrea Tognazzo finished with 10 digs.
Talladega is back in action on Monday when it hosts Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College for two matches. Match one starts at 3 p.m.
