Softball Powers by Rust for DH Sweep

TALLADEGA, Ala. – The Talladega College softball team bats came alive Tuesday afternoon and delivered plenty of run support in a doubleheader sweep over the Rust College Bearcats. The Tornadoes won the first contest 20-0 in five innings and claimed victory in the second game 13-2.

Dega posted 10 runs in the first in the 20-run marathon. Gabriele Garcia posted the first RBI on the day with a sacrifice fly to left field to drive in Marianna Perez. K'yanna Wimbish followed with a two-RBI single to right as Monet Brown and Rayna Davis scored to push the score to 4-0.

Ashli-Nicole Gutierrez smashed an RBI double to left center, Haylee Clausell followed with a single to score two, Armani Curry scored as Perez reached on a fielder's choice for an RBI, Garcia registered another sac-fly RBI, and Davis singled to right center for an RBI to cap the first inning scoring at 10-0.

In the second, Perez drew a bases-loaded walk for an RBI to score Elisa Clay. Garcia followed with a bases-clearing, three-RBI triple as Perez, Clausell, and Curry all scored. Davis finished the comparatively quiet second inning with an RBI single to left to move the score to 15-0.

Neither team scored in the third, but in the fourth inning, Garcia notched her sixth RBI of the game with a single to center. Brown followed with an RBI single of her own, Wimbish pushed across an RBI single to center, and Clay capped the scoring with a single to left field for an RBI to plate Wimbish to push the score to the 20-0 margin.

Garcia was dominant as she went 2-for-2 with six RBIs, a triple, two sac-flies, and two runs scored. Wimbish added three RBIs on 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Clausell stole a pair of bases, while Perez and Curry each registered a swipe.

Garcia smacked in an RBI single to allow Perez to score, Davis posted a double to plate Garcia, and Davis later scored on a passed ball to move the score to 5-1.

Speed was the name of the game for scoring in the third. Brown scored as Wimbish reached first on an error. Wimbish later flashed some speed to score on a passed ball to move the score to 7-1.
The Bearcats added a run to move the score to 7-2 in the fourth before solid base running for the Tornadoes put the game out of reach. In the bottom of the fourth, Gutierrez scored on an error followed by Clausell scoring on a wild pitch. Perez scored on a wild pitch before Garcia scored the final run of the day on an error by the second baseman to secure the 13-2 victory.
