Softball Suffers Sweep to Stillman

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Talladega College softball team dropped the first two of a four-game road stretch after being swept in a doubleheader by the Stillman College Lady Tigers Saturday afternoon at the Stillman Softball Complex.
 
GAME 1 – Stillman 9, Talladega 1 (six innings)
 
The Lady Tigers scored six straight runs to open the doubleheader, capped by a three-run homer from Ivey Moreland in the second inning.
 
Gabriele Garcia helped avoid a shutout with a solo home run to right field in the fourth to move the score to 6-1.
 
Stillman added a run in the bottom of the fourth and two more in sixth to force the run rule in a 9-1 win for the Lady Tigers.
 
Garcia led at the plate after going 2-for-3 with a home run and a double. Monet Brown registered a stolen base.
 
Ashli-Nicole Gutierrez pitched 5.2 innings and allowed 11 hits, seven earned runs, and a walk.
 
GAME 2 – Stillman 13, Talladega 1(five innings)
 
The Tornadoes struck first in the top of the third with a single to left center to score Marianna Perez.
 
However, Stillman responded in a big way in the bottom of the third with 13 runs, capped by a two-RBI single by Carolyn Carter, to take a 13-1 lead, which held as the final score.
 
Miranda Butler started in the circle and threw three innings with a strikeout while allowing eight hits and four earned runs.
 
Talladega College returns to action Monday against Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama for a doubleheader starting at noon.
