FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Talladega College men's volleyball team fell 3-0 (14-25, 18-25, 20-25) to Fort Valley State University tonight. The Tornadoes fell to 2-10 on the season while the Wildcats improved to 4-4.
The Wildcats took a 12-4 lead in set one but Talladega chipped away as it used a 6-3 run to trail, 15-10. Unfortunately, the Fort Valley State lead was too much to overcome as it used a 10-4 run to close the set and take the set 25-14 to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Both teams went back and forth in set two with the Wildcats holding a 7-6 lead. Fort Valley State used an 11-4 run to break the set open and push its lead to, 18-10. But three straight points by Talladega cut the lead to five. The Tornadoes and Wildcats traded points again with Fort Valley State holding on to claim a 25-18 win.
Talladega took a 6-4 lead in set three looking to force a fourth set in the match. The Wildcats had other ideas as they strung together an 8-2 run to go up, 12-8. Talladega fought hard to keep it close and trail no more than by one point for most of the set. With the Wildcats holding a 17-16 lead, they used an 8-4 run to win 25-20 and take the match, 3-0.
Mallik Foreman finished with eight kills, five digs, and one of Talladega's two block solos. Teammate Elijah Fosher tallied 15 assists while adding five digs of his own.
Denzel Pepper registered five kills and three blocks for the Tornadoes.
Talladega is back in action Saturday, Feb 24 when it travels to Edward Waters for a noon match.
