Men’s Soccer Perfect in Penalty Kicks to Advance in CAC Championships

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The Talladega College men's soccer team converted five of five in the penalty shootout to decide the game as the Tornadoes defeated the No. 5 Seed
Washington Adventist University Shock to advance to the semifinals of the Continental Athletic Conference Championships Saturday night.
 
Tavar Lawrence, Christopher Syms, Saeed Charles, Malachai Daniel and Jevaughn Smith all banded together in the shootout round to lead the Tornadoes to the next round.
 
For WAU, Giovanni Torrente, Riku Kawano, Lucas Fazzolari and Marcos Hernandez Molina all converted. However, Diogo Patrao, who was third in the Shock lineup, hit the top of the crossbar on his attempt.
 
Washington Adventist struck first in the low scoring contest in the 13th minute with an assist from Molina.
 
Jose Attong responded in the 27th minute with aid from Tyrike Andrews and Charles to tie the contest at 1-1. The score held through the second half and two overtimes before the postseason contest was decided by penalty kicks.
 
Lawrence and Daniel led the attack with five shots and three shots on goal. Attong finished behind the duo with four shots and three SOGs.
 
The Tornadoes dominated possession and outshot WAU 21-5 and posted a 12-3 shots on goal advantage over the Shock.
 
Talladega College returns to action Monday against the top seeded Bellevue University at 11 a.m. on the campus of Georgia Gwinnett College.
