Men's Basketball Picks Up Fourth Win of Season

TALLADEGA, Ala. – Five different players registered double-figures in points to pace the Talladega College men's basketball team to a 74-67 victory over LeMoyne-Owen College tonight at home. The Tornadoes are now 4-2 on the season while the Magicians are now 0-3.

Talladega jumped out to an 11-4 lead to start the game, but back-to-back free throws brought the Magicians within five with just under 14 minutes to go.  The Tornadoes were able to put together a 14-9 run to push its lead to 25-15 with 6:59 left in the half.  The Magicians chipped away at the lead to make it a 34-25 game going into the locker room at halftime.

The Magicians cut the lead to seven following a layup to make it 34-27 to start the second half, but Wilfred Campbell drained a three-pointer 58 seconds into the half to push the lead to 10. Shaun Walker hit back-to-back foul shots to push the lead to 39-27 but a three by the Magicians at 18:08 brought the lead back to single digits. LeMoyne-Owens used a 9-1 run to climb back into it and trail 42-36 with 14:12 remaining on the clock. Both teams went back and forth with Talladega holding a 55-52 edge with just a little over eight minutes to go. Lamont Sams, Corey Sands, and Walker went back-to-back on multiple baskets to push the lead to 70-62 with less than a minute left in the contest. The Tornadoes' defense was able to hold off the Magicians to secure the win.

Talladega dominated points off turnovers as it tallied 22 points to the Magicians 12. Both teams were even on the glass as they each grabbed 37 boards.

As a team, Talladega registered 10 steals while only turning the ball over four times.

Walker and Sams each tallied a double-double in points and rebounds. Walker finished with a team-high 21 points while grabbing 11 rebounds. He finished going 9 of 10 from the field. Sams tallied a team-high 12 boards to go with his 11 points while shooting 5 of 10 from the line.

Campbell finished with 14 points and five assists. He was also one of three players to tally multiple three-pointers. Teammate Sands was third in points with 13 while going 5 of 6 from the line.

Tre Simmons was the fifth Tornado to hit double-figures as he finished with 11 points while hitting a team-high three three-pointers for the contest.

Talladega is back on the road this Saturday, Nov. 23 when it travels to Memphis, Tenn. to face LeMoyne-Ownes at 3 p.m.
