Volleyball Wins Ninth Straight

MARIETTA, Ga. – The Talladega College women's volleyball team picked up its ninth straight victory this afternoon with a 3-1 (25-17, 16-25, 26-24, 25-21) road win against Life University. The Tornadoes improved to 23-7 while the Eagles dropped to 13-14 on the season.

Trailing 2-0 in the opening set, Talladega used a 6-0 run to grab a 6-2 lead before the Eagles scored their next point. Trailing 6-3, the Eagles were able to use a 4-1 run to cut the lead to one and trail, 8-7.  Talladega was able to push its lead to 13-9 and then used a 7-3 run to break the set open and go in front, 20-12.  Life attempted to claw its way back into it but it wasn't enough as the Tornadoes held on for a 25-17 victory.

Talladega wasted no time in set two as it grabbed a 5-3 lead but it didn't last as Life scored the next four points straight to take a 7-5 lead. The Eagles were able to string together an 8-2 run to push its lead to, 15-7.  Life pushed its lead to 21-11 and never looked back after that as it took the set 25-16 and tied the match at one.

Going into the third set tied, Talladega and Life found themselves tied at four, but the Tornadoes used a 4-2 run to take an 8-6 lead. The lead didn't last long as the Eagles scored the next three points to go in front 9-8, but both teams after that found themselves tied at 11 and then again at 12. Life took a 17-12 lead following a 5-0, but it didn't last long as both teams ended up tied at 18. Both teams went back and forth but life ended up with a 24-21 lead. The Tornadoes answered with a 5-0 run to win the set 26-24 and go in front 2-1.

The Tornadoes took a 4-3 lead in set four, but it did not last as Life took a 10-7 lead. Talladega used a 13-3 run to go up, 20-13. Life chipped away at the lead but it wasn't enough as the Tornadoes won 25-21 and took the match 3-1.

Re'na Ashley paced the Tornadoes on kills with 14 while adding seven digs in the process. Her teammate Josephine Gates added 10 kills as well.

Giovana Costarelli continued her double figures in assists this time with 21 while tallying an ace.  Her fellow setter Nuria Santos registered 12 assists of her own.

Briyith Echeverri led the Tornadoes with 20 digs while Franchesca Rivas picked up 14.

Stella Lukaszuk had three of the team's five aces.

Talladega travels to William Carey University on Monday, Nov. 4 at 6 p.m. to close out the regular season.
