LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – A quick pair of goals for the Georgia Gwinnett Grizzlies led to a loss in the Continental Athletic Conference Classic for the Talladega Men's Soccer team Saturday at the Grizzle Soccer Complex by the score of 2-1.
The loss for the Tornadoes (3-4-2) resulted in a 1-1 record in the CAC Classic.
GGC opened scoring when Alejandro Contrera found the back of the net off an assist from Ciro Damine in the 27th minute. Then in the 29-minute, Hugo Luengo scored off a corner kick to put the Grizzlies ahead 2-0.
Tavar Lawrence scored his 16th goal of the season in the 67th minute, unassisted, to help Talladega avoid a shutout in the 2-1 final tally. Lawrence led Dega with four shots and two shots on goal.
GGC outshot Dega 15-13 and posted more shots on goal 10-5.
Ivory Smith finished with eight saves while spending all 90 minutes in goal.
Talladega College returns to action Friday, Oct. 11, in Columbus, Mississippi, at 6 p.m. against NCAA Division III opponent Mississippi University for Women.
