Women’s Basketball Fall to Bleu Devils on the Road

NEW ORLEANS – A brief early lead in Dent Hall for the Talladega College Women's basketball team gave way to a 55-38 win for The Dillard University Bleu Devils Tuesday night in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference action.

The visiting Tornadoes (6-13, 3-6 GCAC) used a sturdy defense in the opening period and pushed to an 8-5 advantage capped by a layup from Makayla Arnold with 3:37 on the clock. However, the lead was short-lived as Dillard closed the quarter on a 6-0 run to take an 11-8 lead to the second.

The Bleu Devils maintained a lead throughout the second quarter, with Talladega College coming within two points on a pair of occasions, including at 15-13 with 6:44 left after Brooklyn Talton hit a layup. Unfortunately, Dillard hit another gear and raced to a 26-19 halftime advantage.

Both defenses proved to be stout in the second half, but the Bleu Devils won the third quarter, 14-10, and the fourth, 15-9, on the way to a 55-38 home victory.

La'Deja Caldwell finished as Dega's leading scorer with nine points. Arieonna Booker posted seven points, seven rebounds, three steals, and three assists, while Arnold added seven points and five rebounds.

Cassidy Lowe led Dillard and all scorers with 14 points and eight rebounds.

Talladega College returns to action Monday at 4:30 p.m. on the road against NCAA Division II opponent Fort Valley (Ga.) State.
