NEW ORLEANS – The Talladega women's basketball team snapped a three-game skid on Monday night, defeating Southern University at New Orleans by a final of 60-53.
Arieonna Booker poured in a team-high 19 points, and the victory helps the Tornadoes finish off the season sweep of the Lady Knights.
The Lady Knights controlled the opening tip, but Booker came away with the first bucket of the night at the other end of the floor. She totaled six assists and 12 points in the first half, leading the way as Talladega outscored their hosts 24-12 in the second quarter.
The third quarter saw the Tornadoes slow down a bit but still maintain a 12-point lead heading into the final chapter. Four threes helped the Lady Knights to their best quarter of the night, but Talladega proved too strong, holding on for the win.
Kelcei Rivers and
Amayla Sharif joined Booker in double-figures, chipping in 15 and 11 respectively. SUNO's Jordan Harris led all scorers with 20 points, but her eight turnovers proved to be crucial.
The Lady Knights won the battle of the boards by a tally of 26-24, but Talladega forced their opponents into 11 more turnovers in the victory.
Talladega is back in action on Tuesday night, when they take on Dillard in the third of five consecutive road contests. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m.
