Men's Volleyball Falls to Olivet Nazarene to Start Season

GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The Talladega College men's volleyball team opened the season up at the Georgetown Volleyball Tournament this afternoon. The Tornadoes fell to Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) 3-0 (23-25, 21-25, 17-25). 

In the opening set, both teams went back and forth and found themselves tied at 12 before Talladega (0-1) used an ace and took advantage of a pair of Tiger attack errors to take a 15-12 lead. Both teams would trade points and with either of them tied or up by only one or two points for most of the set.  Tied at 19 the Tigers were able to score back-to-back points to go up 21-19 but a Tiger service error and attack error allowed Talladega to tie things up. Both teams traded kills on the next two points until two Tornado errors put the Tigers in front, 24-22. Talladega cut the lead to one off a Tiger service error but Olivet Nazarene closed the set out on a kill to win, 25-23.

Olivet Nazarene (1-0) jumped out to an 11-4 lead in set two before Talladega used a 4-1 run to cut the lead to, 12-8. The Tigers pushed the lead to 20-12, but Talladega was able to cut the lead to four using a 6-2 run.  Talladega was able to get the lead to three before a service error secured the win for the Tigers, 25-21.

The Tigers took an early 3-1 lead in the third set, but back-to-back kills by Mallik Foreman tied things up for Talladega. Olivet Nazarene used a 6-0 run to reclaim the lead and go up, 9-3. The Tigers after that never looked back as they went on to win 25-17 to take the set and the match.

Foreman paced all Talladega players with eight kills while teammate Ahmon Catlin registered six kills. Forman added two assists in the process.

Elijah Foster finished with team-highs in assists with 18 and aces with two.

Andrea Tognazzo collected eight digs for Talladega.

Talladega is back in action tomorrow when it faces host Georgetown College at noon and then closes out the tournament against Indiana Tech at 3 p.m.
