TOUGALOO, Miss. - Talladega College flipped a nine-point deficit into a nine-point Gulf Coast Athletic Conference win Thursday night at Tougaloo College, 56-47.
Trailing 40-31 early in the fourth quarter, Talladega closed the game on a 23-7 run.
Arieonna Booker hit a 3, then swiped a steal and fast break basket to tie the game, 42-42, with six minutes to play. The Tornadoes defense forced a missed shot and two turnovers before
Makayla Arnold drew a foul and hit two free throws to put Dega in front. While Tougaloo briefly regained the lead,
Amayla Sharif answered with a basket before a Brooklyn Talton steal helped set up another Arnold basket and free throw to but Talladega in front, 49-45 with less than three minutes to play.
Talladega out-paced the Bulldogs 12-2 in the final 3:20 of action to pull out the GCAC road win.
Aside from three brief leads in the first half, the Tornadoes trailed most of the game until the fourth quarter rally. Talladega shot 50% from the floor in the final 10 minutes, while holding Tougaloo to 27.3% and 0-for-4 from 3-point range in the fourth quarter.
Booker and Sharif scored 12 and 11 points, respectively, to lead the eight Tornadoes that scored. Arnold finished with nine points and six rebounds, while
La'Daja Caldwell had eight points.
Tougaloo's Sharisse Bridges led all players with 19 points and eight rebounds, followed by Mer'Cades Miller's 11 points.
Talladega (5-9, 2-3 GCAC) will remain in Mississippi on Friday when it travels to Holly Springs to challenge Rust College (14-3, 6-1 GCAC) at 5:30 p.m.
