ATLANTA, Ga. – The Talladega College women's volleyball team has its seven-game winning streak snapped as it fell 3-2 (23-25, 25-15, 20-25, 25-11, 14-16) to host Clark Atlanta tonight. The Tornadoes fall to 15-7 overall while Clark Atlanta improves to 7-6 on the season.
With both teams tied at 6-6 in the opening set, Talladega took advantage of back-to-back Clark Atlanta errors and an ace to take its first lead of the set. Both teams went back and forth for most of the set with the Tornadoes holding the edge, 20-19. Trailing 23-21, Clark Atlanta scored the next four points to take set one, 25-23.
Set two so most of the same as set one, with both teams going back and forth with Talladega holding a 9-7 lead. The Tornadoes went on a 10-0 run to open things up and go up 19-7 in the set. Talladega's strong lead was enough to hold on, take the set 25-15, and tie the match, 1-1.
Tied at 3-3 in set three, Clark Atlanta went on a 7-1 run to take the lead and make it, 10-4. The Tornadoes were able to chip away but weren't able to overcome the early deficit as Clark Atlanta took the set and reclaimed the lead in the match.
Talladega once again responded as it jumped out to a 10-2 lead in set four. Clark Atlanta scored the next five points straight to trail by three. Well, the Tornadoes responded with an 8-0 run of their own to make it, 18-7. Following its run, Talladega never looked back and took the set 25-11 to even the match at two apiece.
With the match tied 2-2, both teams for a third time went back and forth to knot set five at five each. Talladega was able to grab a 9-8 lead, but Clark Atlanta scored the next three points to take an 11-9 lead. Each team traded points until they were knotted at 14 all, but back-to-back errors by Talladega allowed Clark Atlanta to take the final set and win the match, 3-2.
Nedu Evans led Talladega in kills with 12 while tallying two blocks and one of the team's eight aces. Teammate
Dominique Madarang finished with 16 assists and tied for the team-high in aces with two while
Giovana Costarelli recorded 10 assists.
Briyith Echeverri registered 16 digs to pace the Tornadoes.
