MARSHALL, Texas – The Talladega College women's volleyball team traveled to Texas to earn a 3-0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-12) over Wiley College early this evening tonight. The Tornadoes moved to 15-6 overall and 8-1 in the conference while the Wildcats fell to 2-10 on the season and 2-4 in the GCAC.
Talladega took an early 7-1 lead in the first set but the Wildcats scored the next three points to make it a three-point difference. The Tornadoes used a 12-4 run to push their lead to 19-8, but Wiley went on a 7-2 run but still trailed, 21-18. Talladega went on the score the final four points of the set to win 25-18 and take a 1-0 lead in the match.
With set two tied 3-3, the Tornadoes scored the next three points off of back-to-back kills and an ace to lead, 6-3. The Wildcats attempted to chip away at the lead as they came as close as 7-5 but Talladega used a 12-3 run to push its lead to, 19-8. The Tornadoes allowed only four more points as they went on to win, 25-12.
The Tornadoes jumped out to a 7-1 lead looking to close out the match here in set three. Talladega then went on a 9-4 run pushing its lead to 16-5 and from that point, Wiley was unable to catch up. The Tornadoes closed out the match with a 25-12 win in set three.
Talladega hit .293 for the match while hitting a high .409 in set two going 13 for 22 with four attack errors.
Zyaire Prettie Garrit finished with a team-high 10 kills for Talladega. Her 10 kills were a high for the match between both teams.
Giovana Costarelli's 16 assists paced the Tornadoes while teammate
Dominique Madarang finished with 14 digs herself and a match-high four aces. The four aces are the third time this season she has tallied multiple aces in a match with a season-high six coming against Oakwood back on Sept. 19.
Talladega is back in action on Tuesday when it travels to Atlanta to face Clark Atlanta at 4 p.m. and Georgia College & State University at 6 p.m.
