TALLADEGA, Ala. - The Talladega College women's volleyball team defeated conference foe Oakwood University 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-10) tonight at home. With the win, Talladega moves to 14-6 overall and 7-1 in the conference.
As a team, the Tornadoes hit .304 while hitting .394 in set one and .333 in set three.
Oakwood took an early 4-3 lead in the opening set before the Tornadoes scored the next six points straight to take a 9-4 lead. Oakwood strung together a 6-4 run to trail 11-10, but Talladega made sure that was the closest the Ambassadors came as the Tornadoes used an 8-2 run to take a 19-12 lead. Talladega allowed just four more points in the set as it went on to win, 25-16.
With Talladega leading 7-6 in set two, both teams traded points until they were deadlocked in a 14-14 tie. The Tornadoes were able to take a two-point lead following a 5-4 run to make it, 19-17. Oakwood trailed 22-17 but was able to use a 3-1 run to cut the lead to three before Talladega closed out the set on two straight points to win 25-20 and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Looking to close out the match in set three, Talladega jumped out to a 15-5 lead and never looked back from there. The Tornadoes allowed just five more points as they went on to win in dominating fashion and closeout the set with a 25-10 victory and win the match.

Zyaire Prettie Garrit finished with a match-high 13 kills while tallying five digs and three blocks. Teammate
Re'na Ashley also finished with double digits in kills with 10 and recorded three blocks as well.
Briyith Echeverri led all players for both teams as she registered 21 digs for the Tornadoes. While
Dominique Madarang tallied 12 assists and a team-leading six aces.
Talladega is back in action on Friday, September 22 when it travels to Marshall, Texas to face Wiley College at 4 p.m.
