TALLADEGA, Ala – The Talladega College women's volleyball team defeated visiting Stillman College 3-0 (25-10, 25-12, 25-16) tonight to sweep the season series, 2-0. With the win, the Tornadoes are now 9-6 on the year while the Tigers fall to 0-7.
After trailing 3-1 in the opening set, Talladega took the lead off of a 6-1 run to go up, 7-4. Both teams went back and forth with the Tornadoes holding the edge. With Talladega up 9-7, the Tornadoes used a 16-3 run to win the set, 25-10.
Up 1-0 in the match, Talladega opened set two with an 8-2 lead. The Tigers used an 8-3 run to trail 11-10 before the Tornadoes put the set out of reach as they put together a 14-2 run to win 25-12 and go up 2-0 in the match.
Leading 7-2 in set three, Stillman attempted to chip away at the lead as it came within three to make it a, 10-7. Talladega would score the next seven points straight to make it 17-7, but the Tigers tried to claw their way back in the set but it wasn't enough. The Tornadoes would go on to win the set 25-16 and sweep the match, 3-0.
As a team, Talladega hit .300 over the three sets while hitting .455 in set one.
Kiana Polk led all Talladega players with 13 kills while
Kortni Johnson finished with eight kills and three blocks.
Giovana Costarelli led all Tornadoes in assists with 19 while teammate
Briyith Echeverri finished with a team-high 14 digs.
Talladega is back in action tomorrow when it hosts Wiley College at 2 p.m. and Clark Atlanta at 6 p.m.
