Late Goal Clinches Tie for Tornadoes

TALLADEGA, Ala. – Another physical contest for the Talladega College men's soccer team in the early parts of the season showed the poise of the Tornadoes. The team used a goal with eight minutes to spare to tie the contest against Freed-Hardemon on Saturday evening.

Neither team scored in the first 45 minutes. It was not until 70 minutes into the match when Rodrigo Tostado found the back with an assist by Luis Aragon Sosa to give Freed-Hardemon the 1-0 advantage.

Dega (0-1-1) responded after the 82-minute mark with a goal by Christopher Syms to tie the contest at 1-1, which held as the match final.

While Syms connected with his only shot on goal, Jose Attong led the Tornadoes, with all three of his shots being on goal. Ivory Smith came away with seven saves against one goal allowed on the day.

João Pedro, Jr., Avery Flener, and Tostado all put two shots on goal for a balanced Lions attack. Omer Shifris finished with three saves and allowed a single goal.

The match featured 11 total fouls, with eight called on Dega and going against Freed-Hardemon; however, the Lions received three yellow cards compared to just two for the Tornadoes.

The third match in a four-game homestand for Talladega College kicks off Sunday, Sept. 3, at 4:30 p.m. against Oakwood University.
