Baseball Splits DH with Point (Ga.)

TALLADEGA, Ala. - The Talladega College Tornadoes and Point University (Ga.) Skyhawks pushed up their scheduled double-header from Friday afternoon to Tuesday, which created a split schedule for the 3-game series. The teams met in Talladega on Valentines Day for a matinee double-header, and each team picked up a win on the afternoon.

Point (3-4) hung on to win game one 6-5, while a masterful pitching performance from Talladega (6-2) helped the Tornadoes to a 3-1 win in the back half of the day.

Jesuette Dominguez staked the Tornadoes to an early 1-0 lead in game one, but five straight runs in the middle innings gave Point the 5-1 lead after three and a half innings of play. Darlin Fernandez blasted his second home run of the season in the fifth, and Nomar Garcia also left the yard in the seventh, but the rally came up short as Point held on to win 6-5.

Carson Curry (2-0) threw a somplete game for Point in the win, and the loss was charged to Helson Fernandez (1-1). Darlin Fernandez was 2-for-4 in the game, and seven different players either scored runs, drove runs in, or both for Talladega.

In game two, the pitching for Talladega took center stage. Michael Gonzalez (1-0) tossed four innings as the starter for Talladega, and he allowed only five hits and one earned run in the win. he walked one, and he struck out six. Gonzalez was followed to the bump by Samuel Guadamuz (1) who was perhaps more brilliant in earning the save. Guadamuz allowed one hit and one walk in three innings of work.

Offensively in game two, Wander Arias was the star. He doubled twice and scored two runs with one RBI. Darlin Fernandez and Miguel Oropeza had the only other two hits in the game for Talladega, and Oropeza and Rafael Diaz each scored runs.

The teams will wrap up their set on Saturday, February 18, at 2 p.m.
