Women's Basketball Falls in Holiday Classic Finale

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Talladega College women's basketball team dropped the second contest of the 2023 Florida Tech Women's Basketball Holiday Classic to the Flagler College Saints 76-46 Tuesday afternoon in the Clemente Center.

The three-point shot proved to be the difference this time around against the Tornadoes. Flagler finished 14-of-39 beyond the arc, while Dega was limited to just 2-of-12 from the outside.

Jessica Dowdy opened scoring for the game and the Saints with a three-point shot with 8:38 left in the first. Flagler built a 5-0 lead before Makyla Arnold sank a jumper to get Talladega on the board.

The Tornadoes battled to take the lead with 1:42 left in the opening period after Arieonna Booker connected on a layup to put the team up 9-7. However, this was the first and only lead of the game as Dowdy hit back-to-back threes to reclaim the lead for Flagler, who went up 17-9 by the first.

Flagler controlled the rest of the half and outscored the Tornadoes 20-13 in the second quarter to take a 37-22 advantage at the break. In the second half, the Saints forced 10 turnovers to add to the 18 forced in the first half for 28 total and outscored Dega 39-24 on the way to the 76-46 win.

Booker served as the leading scorer for the Tornadoes with 17 points and added nine rebounds and two steals. Arnold added eight points.

Beka Benge led all scorers with 21 points, Destiny McClendon added 16 points, and Dowdy scored 10.

Talladega College has a holiday but will return to action against Wesleyan College on Dec. 30 in Macon, Georgia—the game tips off at 2 p.m. locally.
