JACKSON, Tenn. –
Ethelbert Anum's 19 points guided Talladega College men's basketball to a 77-66 non-conference road win over Lane College tonight. The Tornadoes improved to 10-1 on the season while the Dragons fell to 4-4 on the year.
After trailing early to start the game, Talladega went on to score the next eight points to take an 8-2 lead. Both teams later found themselves knotted at ten with 13:01 remaining, but a jumper from
Shaun Walker put Talladega back in front, 12-10. Lane answered with a jumper of its own to tie things back up, but Walker then scored the next four points for the Tornadoes to make it, 16-12. Talladega was able to increase its lead to six when
D'Andre Boyd hit a layup with 10 minutes remaining. The Dragons retook the lead using a 7-0 run to go up 19-18 with just under seven minutes left. Each team found themselves tied for a third time in the half but this time at 21 each, but after that Talladega was able to reclaim the lead and go into halftime up, 35-31.
Anum opened up the second half with a layup which sparked a 7-2 run for Talladega as it pushed the lead to, 42-33. The Dragons were able to cut the lead to seven with 13:25 left in the game, but the Tornadoes were able to push its lead to 11 when
Jevon Tatum hit a three to make it 61-50 with five and half minutes left. Lane attempted to claw its way back but it was not enough as Talladega closed the game out on an 8-0 run to win, 77-66
Talladega cleaned up on the glass as it grabbed 32 boards to Lane's 27. Ten of the 32 came on the offensive side.
The Tornadoes scored 19 points off of the 14 turnovers by the Dragons.
Anum finished the game going 7-of-9 from the field and 5-of-9 from the line. He grabbed a team-high seven boards in the process for Talladega.
Teammate Boyd finished with 17 points while dishing out a team-high four assists.
Corey Sands paced all Tornadoes with a pair of three-pointers.
Talladega is back on the road on Friday, Dec. 15 when it faces conference foe Wiley College at noon.
