Women’s Basketball Falls at Home to Fisk

TALLADEGA, Ala. – The Talladega College women's basketball team fell behind early and could not make up the deficit in a 67-44 home loss to the Fisk University Lady Bulldogs Monday night in the Dr. Billy C. Hawkins Student Activity Center.
 
Zipporah Davis opened the game's scoring with a three-pointer for Fisk (6-6). Two possessions later, Destiny Johnson connected on a jumper to put Dega (3-5) on the board but behind 3-2. From there, the Lady Bulldogs outscored the Tornadoes 21-9 the rest of the quarter to take a 24-11 lead after one period.
 
The second quarter did not aid in a comeback attempt as Fisk won the timeframe 13-7. Amalya Sharif led all scorers with five points in the second, including a three-pointer to end the quarter, but Fisk took a 37-18 lead to half.
 
In the third, Talladega pushed for a comeback led by five points from both Jordan Austin and Kayla Before cutting the deficit to 49-36 after 30 minutes of action.
 
The Tornadoes cut the lead to nine points after Johnson hit a jumper to move the score to 51-42. However, this is as close as Talladega College got after the Lady Bulldogs used a 16-2 run to put away Dega and collect a 67-44 victory.
 
Prior and Sharif scored nine points to serve as the leading scorers for Talladega. Arieonna Booker added eight points and five rebounds.
 
Maya Buckhanon led a trio of Lady Bulldogs with 24 points and 16 rebounds. Maurecia Mathis added 13 points in 13 minutes, and Davis finished with 12.
 
Talladega College remains out of conference competition as they travel to Melbourne, Florida, to take on Clayton State. The game against the NCAA Division II tips at 1:15 p.m. on Dec. 18.
