TALLADEGA, Ala. - Alexiah McMillian led all players with 24 points, including 11 points in the fourth quarter, to rally Talladega College to an overtime homecoming victory over Voorhees University, 52-48, on Nov. 4. The home-opener win inside the Hawkins Student Activity Center is Dega's first win of the season.
The Tornadoes (1-1) stormed back from an eight-point deficit in the fourth quarter to take a 46-43 lead on an
Alexiah McMillian layup and free throw with less than two minutes to play. McMillian scored 11 points in the fourth quarter to rally Talladega. Hallia Carl hit a 3 in the final minute to send the game to overtime tied, 46-46.
Arieonna Booker gave Talladega the lead in OT with a layup, followed by a McMillian layup to lead by four, 50-46. McMillian and
La'Daja Caldwell each hit one free throw down the stretch to help secure the four-point win. Voorhees shot 1-of-10 in the final five minutes and did not attempt a free throw.
Dega held a narrow 13-10 lead at the end of the first quarter and led 24-21 at the half, but Voorhees pushed ahead in the third quarter to enter the final 10 minutes with a 37-31 lead.
Talladega dominated on the glass throughout the game with 62 total rebounds to the Tigers' 44. Led by Brooklyn Talton's eight offensive rebounds and 12 total boards, Talladega nearly matched Voorhees on rebounds of Dega's backboard with 28 offensive rebounds to the Tigers' 30 on defense.
Nine Tornadoes players scored in the home opener. Booker finished with nine points, eight rebounds, five steals and four steals to follow McMillian. She shot 50% from the floor.
Makayla Arnold was third in rebounds with seven.
Talladega (1-1) will host Southern University of New Orleans (SUNO) for an early Gulf Coast Athletic Conference opener on Tuesday night, Nov. 7 at 5 p.m. before beginning a six-game, five-week road swing.
