Men's Basketball Picks Up Seventh Win of the Season Against Lane

TALLADEGA, Ala. – The Talladega College men's basketball team extended its winning streak to five with a 65-50 win over visiting Lane College tonight. The Tornadoes continue their undefeated streak at home as they are now 3-0 when playing Hawkins Student Activity Center this season.

Talladega is now 7-1 on the campaign while the Dragons fall to 1-2 on the year.

The Tornadoes jumped out to a 7-3 lead to start the game, but Lane quickly knotted things up at 9-9 with 14:31 remaining. Lamont Sam put Talladega back in front a minute and 26 seconds later after hitting a jumper to make it 11-9 Tornadoes. His jumper sparked a 7-3 run for Talladega to push the lead to, 18-12. The Dragons responded with a layup and three-pointer scoring the next five points coming within one with 7:13 left in the half. Talladega wouldn't let Lane come any closer as the Tornadoes used a 13-8 run to make it 32-25 going into halftime.

Lane hung around for most of the second half as they came as close as four-points but it wasn't enough to overcome Talladega's lead. The Tornadoes pushed its lead to 18 points with a 59-41 lead with 4:43 left in the game. Talladega's defense did the rest as it held the Dragons away for most of the second half, which allowed the Tornadoes to cruise to a 65-50 victory.

Talladega finished the game shooting 57 percent (24-of-42) from the field and 71.4 percent (15-of-21) from the foul line.

The Tornadoes cleaned up on the glass grabbing 33 rebounds to the Dragons 19 for the contest.

Wilfred Campbell and D'Andre Boyd both finished in double-digit scoring for Talladega. Campbell finished with a team-high 12 points while pacing the team in assists with five and going 6-of-8 from the line. Boyd tallied 10 points off the bench while leading the team in field goals made with six and rebounds with six.

Corey Sands and Issad Solano each tallied Talladega's only two threes for the game.

Talladega opens up conference action on Saturday, Dec 2 when it travels to Oakwood University. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
