Women's Volleyball Extends Winning-Streak To Seven

ALBANY, Ga. – The Talladega College women's volleyball extended its winning streak to seven games with a 3-1 (25-18, 21-25, 25-16, 25-21) road win over Albany State University tonight in a non-conference action. With the win, the Tornadoes are now 25-8 while the Rams drop to 14-12 on the year.

Talladega opened up the first set with a 6-2 lead, but the Rams were able to use a 4-3 run to trail, 9-6. That was as close as Albany State would come for the set as the Tornadoes never let the Rams score more than two points in a row for the rest of the set. Talladega took the set 25-18 to take an early 1-0 lead in the match.

The Rams took a commanding 12-3 lead in set two as they looked to even the match up at one. Talladega attempted to chip away at the lead and came within six trailing, 24-18. The Tornadoes scored the next three points straight to make it a three-point game, but a service error gave Albany State the 25-21 victory.

Looking to reclaim the lead in the match, Talladega opened the third set up with a 6-2 lead. The Tornadoes were able to use their early lead to hold off any run by the Rams and go on to take the set 25-16 and take a 2-1 lead in the match.

Trailing 6-2 in the fourth set, Talladega slowly chipped away at the lead, but both teams went back and forth with the Rams holding a 12-8 lead. The Tornadoes then strung together a 4-0 run to tie the match at 12, but once again each team found themselves trading points until they were knotted at 17.  For the second time in the match, Talladega used its second 4-0 run to take a 21-17 lead to take control of the set and go in to win, 25-21.

Talladega's Zyaire Prettie Garrit and Giovana Costarelli each finished with a double-double for the match. Garrit tallied a team-high 15 kills while recording 14 digs and teammate Costarelli notched 11 kills and 17 assists.

Briyith Echeverri finished with 25 of the team's 73 digs as she was the second player on the team with double-digits in digs. Taquoia Rounds was the third Tornado to tally double-digits in digs with 12.

Dominique Madarang finished the night with a match-high 31 assists for Talladega.

The Tornadoes are back home on Sunday at 3 p.m. when they host Tougaloo College in a GCAC conference match. It is the team's second to last home regular-season match of the season.
