TALLADEGA, Ala. – The Talladega College women's volleyball team extended its winning streak to six games, picking up a pair of 3-0 wins over conference opponent Southern University of New Orleans this afternoon. The Tornadoes improved to 24-8 and 14-1 in the GCAC with the wins.
Talladega on the day recorded 42 aces with 21 aces in each match.
The Tornadoes are on the road this Friday at 6 p.m. when they travel to Albany State Albany, Georgia
Match One: Talladega 3, SUNO 0
Talladega jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the opening set, and from that moment the Tornadoes never looked back. Talladega was able to cruise to a 25-9 win to take the set.
Both teams found themselves tied at two in the second set, but a 13-0 run by Talladega broke things open to give them a 15-2 lead. The Tornadoes went on to win the set 25-9 and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Tornadoes looked to close out things in set three as they took a 14-1 lead. Talladega used a 15-1 run to claim the set 25-2 and win the match.
Talladega for the match hit .596 with a high .769 in set three while tallying 21 aces for the match.
Zyaire Prettie Garrit finished with 14 kills out of 15 attacks to hit .867. Teammate
Giovana Costarelli finished with a match-highs in aces with 11 and assists with 15.
Match Two: Talladega 3, SUNO 0
After trailing 1-0 in set one, Talladega went on an 11-0 run that allowed the Tornadoes to take the set 25-4 and a 1-0 lead in the match.
With a 9-5 lead on SUNO (0-10, 0-10 GCAC) in set two, the Tornadoes used a 6-0 run to push their lead to 15-5 before back-to-back points from SUNO ended the run. Talladega went on to win using a 10-2 run to pick up a 25-9 win.
Leading 10-3 in set three, Talladega looked to close things out and pick up its second win on the day. The Tornadoes made sure to waste no time as they used a 15-5 run to close the set and take the match, 3-0.
Josephine Gates led the Talladega in kills with 10 while hitting .833. Teammate
Nuria Santos registered 17 assists and a pair of aces.
Taquoia Rounds finished with a team-high seven aces for Talladega.
