Dega Women Fall to BPC, 68-62

TALLADEGA, Ala. - Talladega College women's basketball had its first Southern States Athletic Conference win in its sight Tuesday night, but a late surge by Brewton-Parker College stymied the Tornadoes in a 68-62 loss at home.

After trailing by two, 25-23, at halftime, Talladega carried a 44-41 lead into the fourth quarter en route to building a 10-point lead.

Amya Walker gave Talladega its first lead of the second quarter, 30-29, with 6:00 left in the third quarter. After five lead changes, Je'Nya Wilder hit a jumper with 29 seconds left in the quarter, followed by a pair of Brooklyn Tate free throws to give the Tornadoes a 44-41 lead.

The Tornadoes stormed out to a 7-0 run in the fourth quarter to lead 51-41 with 8:19 to play after a Wilder layup. Wilder scored five of Talladega's first seven points in the fourth quarter and assisted the other two.

Dega's defense held off a Brewton-Parker rally over the next few minutes, but a Keonya Mincy 3-pointer with 6:38 helped spark a 7-0 run by the Barons to make it a two-possession game.

Wilder stopped the run with a jumper and Talladega maintained at least a two-possession lead until Sy-Marieona Williams hit a 3 with 3:40 remaining for BPC. Cisley Copper hit another Barons' 3 two possessions later to tie the game, 58-58, with 2:09 to play.

Brewton-Parker took the lead, 60-58 with less than two minute left and ended up out-scoring Talladega 16-4 in the final four minutes of action.

Sharif led Talladega with 17 points and eight rebounds. Wilder finished with 12 points and Makayla Transou scored 11 points. Brooklynn Tate added nine points.

Madison Evans led Brewton-Parker with a double-double 15 points and 10 rebounds. Williams finished with 12 points.

Talladega (4-8, 0-7 SSAC) will travel to Loyola University this Saturday for a 1 p.m. tipoff.
