No. 9 Wolf Pack Push by Dega for Win

NEW ORLEANS – Facing a Loyola University New Orleans Wolf Pack program that had not lost a home contest in nearly three years, the Talladega College women's basketball team could not overcome the odds and fell to the undefeated squad 82-55 Saturday in The Den.

The win moved ninth-ranked Loyola to 13-0 on the season and 7-0 in the Southern States Athletic Conference, while Talladega fell to 4-9 on the season and 0-8 in the SSAC.

Two minutes of action passed before Talladega registered the contest's first points with a three from Bryanna Williams with 8:10 to go in the first. However, the Wolf Pack responded on back-to-back possessions with buckets from Kennedy Hansberry and Jazmene McMillan to take a 4-3 lead.

Brooklyn Tate hit a shot off an offensive rebound at the 6:54 mark to help Dega reclaim the lead at 5-4. Unfortunately, this would be the last advantage of the game for the Tornadoes. Hansberry hit a three-pointer 13 seconds later to put Loyola up 7-5. From there, the Wolf Pack outscored 17-11 to end the opening quarter with a 24-16 advantage.

The offense led the way for Loyola in the second as the team shot an impressive 9-of-14 in the 10-minute frame and built a 46-33 lead in the half.

The Wolf Pack once again carried the third quarter, but this time on the defensive side, as Talladega was limited to just 10 points in the period. Brooklyn Talton and Amir Brown both scored four points in the quarter. Loyola put the Tornadoes away in the fourth and outscored Dega 17-12 en route to an 82-55 victory.

Je'Nya Wilder was the only Talladega player to score in double digits with 16 points, and she also posted five rebounds, three assists and a steal. Makalay Transou, Talton and Brown all scored eight points. Talton led on the boards with 11 rebounds.

Loyola limited the Tornadoes' offense to 37.5 percent (21-of-56) from the floor, 33.3 percent (6-of-18) from three, and 63.6 percent (7-of-11) from the free throw line.

Five different Wolf Pack performers scored in double figures, led by Sandra Cannady with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Jada Farrell, Taylor Thomas, and Tera Snell each had 11 points, while McMillan scored 10.

Loyola shot 46.5 percent (33-of-71) overall, 38.5 percent (5-of-13) from beyond the arc, and 61.1 percent (11-of-18) at the line.

Talladega College will look to regroup and step out of conference competition for a matchup against Coastal Georgia on Jan. 10 in Brunswick, Georgia. Tip-off for the game is set for 4:30 p.m. at the Coffin Gym.
