Tornadoes Falter in Road Loss to Mobile, 65-60

MOBILE, Ala. – The Talladega College women's basketball team battled hard, but the University of Mobile Lady Rams found some separation on the way to a 65-60 victory Tuesday night in Southern States Athletic Conference competition. 
 
The Lady Rams (11-11, 7-5 SSAC) started the contest on a 6-0 run before Katerina Patkova knocked down a second chance jumper with just over seven minutes to go to get the Tornadoes (5-13, 0-12 SSAC) on the board at 6-2. At the five minute-mark, Shamya Loman knocked down a jump shot to tie the game at 10-10. After MacKenzie White broke the tie for Mobile with a free throw, Amir Brown reclaimed the lead for Dega after a layup with just over three minutes before the half. The lead changed two more times before the end of the quarter, with the Lady Rams grabbing a four-point lead until Je'Nya Wilder hit a jumper to bring the score to 16-14 to end the period. 
 
Brooklyn Tate hit a shot to open the second quarter and tied the game at 16-16; Alesha Temple scored on the next possession to put Mobile back up by two. The lead changed four times, including a layup from Loman that put Talladega up 23-22 with just over two minutes before halftime. Claire Worth hit a pair of free throws to give the Lady Rams a 24-23 lead, which served as the game's final lead change. Mobile pushed to a seven-point lead after a made bucket by White to take a 30-23 lead to the locker room. 
 
The third quarter belonged to Mobile as the Lady Rams outscored Dega 18-12 in the timeframe and took a 48-35 lead to the final quarter. 
 
Talladega outscored Mobile 25-17 in the fourth and got as close as within four points after a three-pointer from Wilder to cut the score to 62-58 with 31 seconds to go. However, the Lady Rams were able to hold on for the 65-60 league win. 
 
Wilder led all scorers with 20 points and added four rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Loman finished with 18 points and five rebounds, while Tate dominated on the boards with 12 rebounds and chipped in with four points and three steals. 
 
The Tornadoes shot 39.7 percent (25-of-63) from the floor, 20 percent (2-of-10) from beyond the arc, and 72.7 percent (8-of-11) at the free throw line. 
 
Erica Jones scored 18 points to lead Mobile and White finished with 12 points, six rebounds, and four assists. 
 
Game two of the three-game SSAC road tour for Talladega College continues Saturday, starting at 4:30 p.m. against Life University in Marietta, Georgia.
