MGA Pushes by Dega, 56-45

COCHRAN, Ga. – A slow start to the third quarter proved costly for the Talladega College women's basketball team as the Middle Georgia State University Knights took advantage and grabbed a 56-45 win in Southern Sports Athletic Conference action Monday afternoon.

Dega controlled the game's opening minutes and scored the first four points before MGA finally made a shot. The Tornadoes earned a five-point advantage after a free throw from Amayla Sharif put the team up 7-2 with just under five minutes left in the quarter. Sharif later hit a jumper to put Talladega up 11-8 heading to the second quarter.

Scoring was at a premium in the second quarter, with neither team scoring more than 10 points in the period. Sharif gave the Tornadoes their largest lead of the game with just over five minutes to go off a jumper to make the score 15-9. Middle Georgia then started an 8-2 run to close the half, capped by free throws from Brianna McRae to tie the game 17-17 at the half.

Talladega (5-10, 0-9 SSAC) entered the third tied 17-17 with MGA (4-8, 2-6 SSAC), but Michaela Mobley grabbed a steal and hit a layup in transition to give the Knights a 19-17 lead. Middle Georgia never trailed after this point. Je'Nya Wilder connected on a free throw to close the gap to 19-18. However, MGA outscored the Tornadoes 22-3 for the remainder of the quarter to take a 41-22 to the fourth.
