Mobile Wins Battle over Tornadoes

TALLADEGA, Ala. – The final score does not reflect the level of competition in the contest as the Talladega College volleyball team fought hard but fell in three sets Friday night to the University of Mobile Rams in Southern States Athletic Conference action.
 
Mobile (25-16, 25-22, 25-22) needed everything the team had to move to 20-9 on the season and 11-5 in SSAC play with a shot for the third seed in the upcoming championship tournament. The Tornadoes fell to 13-15 overall and 5-11 in the conference with a hold on the seventh seed in the SSAC. 
 
Zyaire-Prettie Garrit posted 11 kills to lead Dega on a .242 attack percentage. The Long Beach, the California native, added eight digs defensively. Raven Clater and Maloree Calzadillas both passed 11 assists each. 
 
Taquoia Rounds put up an outstanding 22 digs on the back row. Josephine Gates added three block assists and a solo block to head the front row. Tianah Sanders put up two block assists and a solo block as well. 
 
Kendel Lee Frazer finished with 10 kills, while reigning SSAC Offensive Player of the Week Abby Andrews added eight kills and 14 digs on the defensive side. 
 
Talladega College has one more regular season contest as the team prepares to host Faulkner University Saturday at noon.
