Tornadoes Fall in Exhibition with Samford, 84-47

HOMEWOOD, Ala. – Taking the court for the first time in 10 days, the Talladega College women's basketball team came up short in an 84-47 loss to NCAA Division I opponent Samford University Saturday evening at the Pete Hanna Center. 
 
Talladega won the first quarter by outscoring the Samford Bulldogs 23-19 in the opening quarter. However, the time off showed itself in the second quarter as Samford outscored the Tornadoes, 30-7, in the period on the way to a 49-30 lead at the half. 
 
The Bulldogs continued the strong effort in the second half and outscored Dega, 35-17, on the way to an 84-47 victory. 
 
Makayla Transou posted 17 points and three rebounds. Amir Brown also reached double figures with 10 points. Je'Nya Wilder filled the stat sheet with eight points, three rebounds, and three steals.
 
As a team, Talladega shot 38.6 percent (17-of-44) from the floor, 33.3 percent (4-of-12) from three, and 64.3 percent (9-of-14) from the free throw line. 
 
Four players hit double figures for Samford, led by 15 points from Sanaa Redmond, Emily Bowman scored 12, Andrea Cournoyer posted 11 points, and Macey Lee added 10 points. 
 
The Bulldogs finished the game 57.1 percent (36-of-63), 45 percent (9-of-20) from behind the arc, and 42.9 percent (3-of-7) in free throws. 
 
Samford outscored Dega, 46-16, in the paint, 16-6, in the fast break and came ahead, 17-8, in points off turnovers.
 
Talladega will use the Thanksgiving break to get a quick rest and then prepare to step back in Southern Sports Athletic Conference action starting on Nov.29 against the University of Mobile. Tipoff is set for 5:30 pm. in the Dr. Hawkins Student Activity Center.
