A native of Marlin, Texas, Coach Hartsfield is a former standout student-athlete whose playing career left a lasting impact at Texas College, where he competed from 2004 to 2008. In 2007 Jameus earned 2nd Team All-Conference. During his time as a player, he was named Defensive Player of the Year in 2008 and earned national recognition as the NAIA’s Leading Rebounder in both 2007 and 2008 — achievements that reflect his relentless work ethic and toughness on the court.
After graduating, Hartsfield joined Wiley College men’s basketball staff at the age of twenty-two. As the assistant coach he also served as Director of Student Activities and Director of Intramurals at different times. Coach Hartsfield spent six years as the assistant, from 2008-2014 and helped guide the Wildcats 103-84 record. As the primary recruiter for the Wildcats Coach Hartsfield recruited three NAIA All-Americans Darnell Adams, Kenny LaGurre, and Phillip Miller.
In the fall of 2014, Jameus Hartsfield was named head coach of Wiley College at the age of twenty-seven (making him the youngest head coach in the conference). As a head coach, he holds an impressive 62–34 career record. In his first season the team posted a 21-12 record and qualified for the NAIA National Tournament. In 2015, Hartsfield was promoted to Associate Athletic Director while continuing serving as the head coach. As the Associate AD he oversaw eligibility and community service for the athletic department. He also helped manage the athletic department budget. That year the team finished with an 18-12 record. In the 2016-2017 season Coach Hartsfield led the Wildcats to his second twenty-win season in three years finishing with a 23-10 record. Under his leadership Wiley College achieved its highest National ranking in history by earning 7th place in the national polls. Twice during Hartsfield’s tenure as head coach, the Wildcats beats defeated NCAA Division I schools – Sam Houston State and Grambling State University.
After the 2017 season, Coach Hartsfield departed Wiley College to return to his hometown of Marlin, Texas to teach and serve his community as a high school coach. Hartsfield guided the Bulldogs to four consecutive district championships. In 2022, Hartsfield entered the private sector by working for Family Endeavors (a non-profit organization) at Pecos Children Center, in Pecos Texas. He served as Content Area Supervisor for Physical Education, teaching unaccompanied minors the importance of physical fitness. On December 30, 2024, Coach Hartsfield returned to College Hardwood at his alma mater, Texas College. Appointed to lead the Men’s Basketball program and uphold continuity during a period of grief, after the unexpected passing of the head coach, Jameus knew that it was time to return to his passion for leading collegiate young men on the court.
Beyond the hardwood, Coach Hartsfield is a devoted family man. He is married to his wife, Nicole Hartsfield, and together they have three children: Jaylen- entering his freshman year of college (UTI), Jaidyn - entering her senior season in High School who’s committed to (Ole Miss for Volleyball), and Jameus Jr. -fifth grade. They are the foundation of his life and his greatest source of strength and inspiration.
