Ahmon Catlin begins his first season as Head Coach of the Talladega College Men's Volleyball program after a journey that has taken him through nearly every level of the institution. From student-athlete and student assistant to graduate assistant, volunteer coach, and now head coach, Catlin's connection to Talladega College has shaped both his leadership and his vision for the future of the program.
A native of Calera, Alabama, Catlin brings a passion for developing student-athletes and building a competitive culture centered on accountability, hard work, and genuine relationships. Catlin earned both his Bachelor of Arts in English Language Arts and his Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Management from Talladega College
Before making his mark in volleyball, Catlin competed as a member of the Talladega College Track & Field team. His interest in volleyball began while volunteering as a student assistant with the women's volleyball program in 2019. What started as an opportunity to help quickly turned into a passion for coaching and the game itself.
That passion led Catlin to join the Talladega College Men's Volleyball team, where he competed as an outside hitter during the inaugural 2023-2024 season. His time as a player gave him firsthand experience in building a young program and strengthened his desire to pursue coaching at the collegiate level.
Following his playing career, Catlin remained with the program as the Graduate Assistant for men's volleyball before joining the women's volleyball staff as a Volunteer Assistant Coach. In those roles, he was heavily involved in recruiting, scouting opponents, planning practices, player development, and the day-to-day operations of the program.
Outside of athletics, Catlin serves as a Financial Aid Specialist and Federal Work-Study Coordinator at Talladega College, where he works closely with students to help them navigate their college experience. His commitment to mentoring students carries over into coaching, where he believes success is measured by the growth of the individual just as much as the outcome on the scoreboard.
Now leading the Tornadoes, Catlin is focused on building a program that reflects the values of Talladega College. His vision is to create a culture built on accountability, discipline, hard work, and genuine relationships while developing student-athletes who are prepared to succeed in competition, in the classroom, and in life.
For Catlin, coaching is about leaving the program better than he found it and helping every student-athlete reach their full potential—both on and off the court.
