Kyle Liechti is entering his second year in Talladega following one season as assistant coach at Dillard University, assisting Dillard to a second-consecutive Gulf Coast Athletic Conference undefeated regular season championship.
In his first season at Talladega, Liechti helped lead the women’s volleyball team to an impressive, record-breaking season. The program saw the most success in history as the record was set for single-season wins at 31. Liechti also helped lead the program to its first-ever conference championship (regular season and tournament) as well as the first-ever NAIA National Tournament appearance. The program was also a top contender in the NAIA as one of only three teams to have 30+ wins before the national tournament. The team also found themselves ranked in the Top 10 in the NAIA in four statistical categories (Service Aces, Points, Service Aces per Set, Kills). During the season, Liechti helped his athletes nab conference player of the week eleven times. Under his and Head Coach Lashaunda Spurgeon’s guidance, three players were named to the All-GCAC first team and two players were named to the All-GCAC second team. In addition, Liechti helped coach the GCAC Attacker and Player of the Year. Three players received all-tournament team honors including the Tournament MVP. He also coached two players to NAIA AVCA Southeast All-Region honors (one first team, one honorable mention), one player to NAIA AVCA Southeast All-Region Attacker of the Year, and one player to NAIA AVCA Third-Team All-American.
On the men’s side of the program, Liechti worked to recruit an entire roster for the inaugural season of Talladega College Men’s Volleyball in 2024. The program has already seen many “firsts” in history including being the only collegiate men’s volleyball program in the state of Alabama. The program is also the only HBCU men’s volleyball program in the NAIA.
In his role at Dillard, Liechti worked primarily with the Bleu Devil setters and assisted in the offensive game plan. He spearheaded the strength and conditioning program where he helped minimize injury and maximize player performance on the court. He also contributed to recruiting efforts for the program. Under his and Head Coach Lashaunda Spurgeon’s guidance, three players received nine conference Player of the Week awards throughout the 2022 season as well as two first-team All-GCAC and two second-team All-GCAC players. He also helped coach two players to the GCAC All-Tournament team and two players to NAIA AVCA Southeast All-Region honors (one first-team selection, and one honorable mention).
Prior to reaching the collegiate coaching ranks, Liechti served as the head varsity coach at Stillwater High School and Executive Director at CRUSH Volleyball Club in Stillwater, Oklahoma. His main purpose in Stillwater was to establish a culture that would continue for years to come. In his roles in Stillwater, Liechti was tasked with helping develop the athletes to compete to their highest abilities at various local and national tournaments. His major wins as a head coach include first and second place in the gold, silver and bronze bracket at national tournaments.
As an undergraduate, Liechti was a four-year starter for the Oklahoma State Men’s Volleyball Club team, where he led the team to its best finish in school history in 2018.
The Vail, Iowa native earned his Bachelor of Science in Animal Science and Production in 2018 from Oklahoma State University.
