Tim King

Tim King joined the Talladega College staff in 2022 after coaching three seasons at Martin Methodist College (now University of Tennessee Southern). He took two years away from coaching during COVID and pursued other interest including rebranding the North Alabama Junior Golf Association where he serves as Co-Founder/Executive Director and his collegiate golf recruiting consulting company NextGen Golf and Sports Management.

King has been a member of the PGA of America since 1999 and is PGA American Development Model Certified (ADM), is PGA Modern Coach Certified, a member of the Positive Coaching Alliance, and is a US Kids Level 1 Certified Coach. He has been involved in the golf industry and promoting junior golf for over 30 years.

In 1994, King incorporated Fore Junior Golf in Madison County, Alabama and formed the North Alabama Junior Golf Association (NAJGA). The association serviced over 1,000 junior golfers over 10 years and conducted junior golf tournaments across North Alabama at some of the finest country clubs in the state. During his time away from coaching, King has relaunched the NAJGA as a program of the 501(c)(3) nonprofit Shoals Sports Commission with a new mission, #IMPACT2022 to grow and develop the junior golfers of North Alabama. His biggest initiative of #IMPACT2022 will be to get golf into six elementary schools in North Alabama over the next year.

King holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Athens State University and an MBA in sports management and leadership from Northcentral University. His other junior golf experience includes the First Tee Gulf Coast where he served as the tournament director for the Greater Pensacola Junior Golf Association and was responsible for overseeing the Bubba Watson Divot Derby and the A. Downing Grey Cup events. In the Summer of 2019, King served as a coach at the renowned International Junior Golf Academy in Bluffton South Carolina working with kids from across the United States and Internationally. He is a past recipient of the PGA Dixie Section Junior Golf Leader of the Year Award and Favorite Teaching Professional by the readers of the Tennessee Valley Golf News.

In his first two seasons at Martin Methodist, his teams won three times and finished inside the Top 5 eight times. In his first season the men’s team finished second at the Southern States Athletic Conference Championship. It was the best finish in program history at a conference championship at the time. This included two Top 5 individual finishers at the same championship. In his second season, MMC finished a second-best school record of third place at the Southern States Athletic Conference Championship and included one Top 5 individual finisher. He coached a five-time recipient of the SSAC Player of the Week, one Golf Coaches Association of America Scholar All- American, one SSAC All-Freshman, one SSAC All-Conference, one NAIA Scholar Athlete, and two SSAC Academic All-Conference selections.

In his second season the MMC golf teams had a combined 3.51 Team GPA and was the highest GPA out of 17 athletic programs at Martin Methodist. For this accomplishment the golf teams were named the Martin Methodist Athletics Team of the Year.

His third and final season was shaping up to possibly be one of the best in program history. The men’s team had four top five finishes, including two runner-up finishes in two events that include eight teams ranked inside the Top 25 in the country. The men’s team finished runner-up at the Blue Mountain Invitational at Old Waverly including the individual champion. The team traveled the Canebrake Golf Club in Hattiesburg Mississippi to compete in the William Carey Collegiate Classic where it notched its second runner-up finish in two weeks. The team narrowly missed out on another individual champion by losing on the fourth playoff hole. Shortly after their return trip from Mississippi, COVID hit and cancelled the season for the RedHawks.

In that 2020 season, he coached a two-time SSAC Player of the week, two SSAC All-Conference student-athletes, one SSAC All-Freshman, two SSAC Academic All-Conference, two Golf Coaches Association of American Scholar All-Americans, two inductees into the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athletic Honor Society, and the SSAC Freshman of the Year.
