Carter arrives in Talladega after spending four seasons as the lead Assistant Coach at Adams State University, a NCAA Division II member that competes in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. During his four years in Alamosa, he helped the Grizzlies qualify for the RMAC tournament each season. Carter was also instrumental in recruiting and developing six All-Conference selections, and nine players that went on to play professionally overseas.Â
"We are thrilled to add Coach Carter to our staff," said Coach Wright. "He is a proven recruiter that has had success wherever he has been. He also brings tremendous knowledge and experience from playing professionally as his global contacts and connections are unmatched at our level. He truly cares about the young men he coaches, and I know our players are going to benefit greatly from him being in our program."
Carter, a Brooklyn native, had a lucrative and long-lasting professional career as a player. He played on five different continents over a 19-year span. He also spent time in several NBA training camps and was even a member of the acclaimed Harlem Globetrotters.
After retiring from playing he began his coaching career in Germany. Carter then returned to New York to coach at SUNY Canton University where he coached the NCAA Division III Kangaroos. From there he relocated to Colorado to serve as an assistant at Colorado Northwestern Community College. During his time there he also held the position of Interim Head Coach of the Lady Spartans.
Carter spent the 2014-2015 season as an assistant at Kilgore University for Coach Brian Hoberecht. At Kilgore he helped lead the Rangers to a 21-9 record and a top 25 NJCAA record. The Rangers also qualified for the Region XIV tournament. Four players from that team signed Division I scholarships, and two were named first team All-Conference selections.
"I want to thank Coach Wright and Coach Hinshaw for welcoming me to the Tornado family," stated Carter. "Talladega College has a storied history, and I am looking forward to being able to add to the tradition of excellence here."Â
