A native of Marlin, Texas, Coach Jameus Hartsfield is a former standout student-athlete whose playing career left a lasting impact at Texas College, where he competed from 2004 to 2008. Hartsfield earned Second-Team All-Conference honors in 2007, was named Defensive Player of the Year in 2008, and gained national recognition as the NAIA’s leading rebounder in both 2007 and 2008. Those accomplishments reflected the relentless work ethic, toughness, and competitive spirit that continue to define his coaching philosophy.
After graduating, Hartsfield began his coaching career at the age of 22 as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Wiley College. During his six seasons on staff from 2008 to 2014, he helped guide the Wildcats to a 103–84 record. He also served the institution as Director of Student Activities and Director of Intramurals. As Wiley’s primary recruiter, Hartsfield recruited three NAIA All-Americans: Darnell Adams, Kenny LaGuerre, and Phillip Miller.
In the fall of 2014, Hartsfield was named head men’s basketball coach at Wiley College at the age of 27, becoming the youngest head coach in the conference. In his first season, the Wildcats finished 21–12 and qualified for the NAIA National Tournament. In 2015, he was promoted to Associate Athletic Director while continuing to lead the men’s basketball program. In that administrative role, he oversaw athletic eligibility and community-service initiatives while assisting with management of the department’s budget.
Wiley finished the 2015–16 season with an 18–12 record. During the 2016–17 campaign, Hartsfield led the Wildcats to a 23–10 finish, securing his second 20-win season in three years. Under his leadership, Wiley achieved the highest national ranking in program history, reaching No. 7 in the NAIA national poll. His teams also earned victories over two NCAA Division I opponents—Sam Houston State University and Grambling State University.
Following the 2017 season, Hartsfield returned to his hometown of Marlin, Texas, to teach, coach, and serve his community. As a high school coach, he guided the Marlin Bulldogs to four consecutive district championships.
In 2022, Hartsfield entered the nonprofit sector with Family Endeavors at the Pecos Children’s Center in Pecos, Texas. As Content Area Supervisor for Physical Education, he taught unaccompanied minors the value of physical fitness, discipline, and healthy living.
On December 30, 2024, Hartsfield returned to the collegiate hardwood at his alma mater, Texas College. Following the unexpected passing of the program’s head coach, he was entrusted with leading the men’s basketball program and providing stability during a period of tremendous grief. The opportunity reaffirmed his passion for mentoring and developing young men through collegiate athletics.
Hartsfield later accepted the position of head men’s basketball coach at Talladega College. During his first season leading the Tornadoes, he guided the program to a 13–11 record. He now holds a 75–45 career record as a collegiate head coach, including three winning seasons of at least 20 victories and two appearances in the NAIA National Tournament.
Beyond the hardwood, Coach Hartsfield is a devoted husband and father. He is married to his wife, Nicole Hartsfield, and together they have three children: Jaylen, a graduate of Universal Technical Institute; Jaidyn, who completed her first collegiate semester at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) in the spring of 2026; and Jameus Jr., who will enter the sixth grade. His family remains the foundation of his life and his greatest source of strength, motivation, and inspiration.
