Talladega women's basketball showed its toughness on the road Saturday, February 7, pulling away in the second half for a 69–56 conference win over Wilberforce inside Gaston F. Lewis Arena.
After a physical first half, the Lady Tornadoes stayed composed and kept finding ways to score. Talladega led 16–11 after the opening quarter and took a 34–30 advantage into the break, then came out of the locker room with a big third-quarter push. The Lady Tornadoes outscored Wilberforce 19–11 in the third to create separation, and they never let the momentum swing back—stretching the lead to as many as 20 in the fourth.
Courtney Lowe led the way with 21 points, knocking down three triples and consistently making plays in transition. Teanna Watts added 16 points with a steady presence on both ends, while Ceara Myers turned in a workmanlike double-double with 13 points and 16 rebounds to help Talladega control the glass. Olympia Chaney chipped in eight points, Kameron Jones finished with seven, and Ja'Kalynn McGinnis provided a huge lift inside with 13 rebounds.
Talladega's edge came from effort plays, winning the rebounding battle 50–41 (including 22 offensive boards) and turning defense into offense with nine steals and 14 fast-break points.
Coach Payne credited his team's resilience after the win, saying he was "proud of how the ladies were able to play through injuries. We came out the second half and dominated the boards."
