The Talladega College women's basketball team battled through four quarters on the road but fell 72–56 to Oakwood University on Thursday night in conference action.
The Tornadoes stayed competitive early, trailing just 18–16 after the first quarter before Oakwood used a 16–8 third-quarter run to gain separation. Talladega went into halftime down 34–28 and continued to fight in the second half, but Oakwood's balanced scoring and defensive pressure proved to be the difference down the stretch.
Ceara Myers led Talladega with a strong double-double performance, finishing with 14 points and 13 rebounds to anchor the Tornadoes in the paint. Courtney Lowe added 12 points, while Olympia Chaney provided a spark off the bench with 10 points and five rebounds.
Teanna Watts chipped in six points and three rebounds, and Kameron Jones contributed three points. Talladega continued to battle on the glass throughout the contest, with multiple players contributing rebounds as the Tornadoes worked to limit second-chance opportunities.
Despite the setback, Talladega showed resilience and effort throughout the contest, competing defensively and attacking the paint against one of the conference's top teams.
Talladega will look to regroup and build on the positives from Thursday's effort as conference play continues. The Tornadoes return to action Saturday when they face Fisk University in another important conference matchup.
