The Talladega College men's basketball team earned a hard-fought 69–62 victory over Morris on Sunday afternoon inside the Billy C. Hawkins Student Activity Center, using balanced scoring and defensive pressure to pull away down the stretch.
The Tornadoes led 36–31 at the half and matched Morris score for score in the second period to secure the seven-point win. Talladega forced 15 turnovers and turned those miscues into timely scoring opportunities, helping maintain control in a competitive contest.
Tre Simmons led Talladega with 17 points, scoring 16 of them in the second half, including key baskets and free throws that helped seal the game late. Shaun Walker added 15 points and five rebounds, continuing his steady play on both ends of the floor. Jalen Bing-Wallace chipped in 13 points, while Derek Burditt filled the stat sheet with eight points, seven rebounds, and seven assists.
Talladega's depth also proved important, as the bench accounted for 21 points. Arthur Williams knocked down a pair of three-pointers and finished with eight points, while Jayden Davis provided an early spark off the bench.
Talladega knocked down five three-pointers and got to the free-throw line 26 times. Defensively, the Tornadoes recorded 11 steals and held Morris to just two made three-pointers on the afternoon.
Morris was paced by Mio Grant with 17 points and nine rebounds, while Bobby Gilbert added 14 points. Despite Morris matching Talladega with 31 points in each half, the Tornadoes answered every run and never surrendered the lead in the final minutes.
Talladega will be back in action on the road Saturday, December 13, as the Tornadoes take on Life University in a rematch away from home.
