TALLADEGA, Ala. — The Talladega College Tornadoes secured a hard-fought 83-77 victory over the Fisk University Bulldogs on Thursday night at the Student Activity Center.
In a game that featured multiple lead changes and tied scores, the Tornadoes pulled ahead in the second half, matching Fisk's scoring output with a strong performance from their key players.
Shaun Walker led the way for Talladega, scoring 22 points on an impressive 10-of-14 shooting from the field. He also contributed eight rebounds and four assists, showcasing his all-around game.
Wilfred Campbell added 18 points, hitting 6-of-11 from the floor, including two 3-pointers, while also collecting three rebounds and dishing out five assists.
Lamont Sams was a force in the paint, finishing with 16 points and 11 rebounds, recording a double-double.
Derek Burditt contributed 10 points and five assists, rounding out a balanced scoring effort from the Tornadoes.
Talladega shot an impressive 60.4% from the field and excelled from the free-throw line, converting 70% of their attempts. They also dominated the paint, scoring 40 points inside, compared to Fisk's 14.
Fisk put up a strong fight, particularly in the second half, where they outscored Talladega 47-47, but ultimately fell short. Doyel Cockrill III was the standout for the Bulldogs, scoring 27 points, including six 3-pointers. Justin McNelkan added 12 points and Mitchel Seay also contributed 12 points in the losing effort.
The Tornadoes improved their record to 14-7 overall and 8-5 in conference play, while Fisk dropped to 7-17 and 5-9 in the league.
Talladega will look to build on this momentum as they prepare to face the Rust Bearcats on Saturday, January 25.
