JACKSON, Miss. – The Talladega College women's volleyball team earned its 10
th win of the season with a 3-0 (25-7,25-17, 25-22) conference win against Tougaloo College this afternoon at the HBCUAC Crossover hosted by Tougaloo. Talladega is now 10-6 on the season and 5-1 in the conference while the Bulldogs fall to 1-9 and 1-2.
Talladega took charge in the opening set as it dumped out to a 13-1 lead before the Bulldogs scored three points straight. That short 3-0 run by Tougaloo didn't last long as the Tornadoes pushed the lead to 19-4 before going on to win, 25-7.
With the momentum on their side, the Tornadoes once again took an early lead this time in set two as they opened up with a 9-0 lead. Talladega then pushed its lead to 16-8 but a 4-0 run by the Bulldogs made it a four-point difference. The Tornadoes used a 5-2 run to push their lead to 21-14 before claiming the set 25-17 and going up 2-0 in the match.
Looking to close things out in set three, but the Bulldogs had other plans at they tied the match at nine after Talladega was up, 9-3. The Bulldogs were able to grab their first lead of the match when they went up 13-11, but Talladega used a 3-0 run to reclaim the lead at, 14-13. Both teams went back and forth only to end up tied at 19 but Tougaloo grabbed a 22-21 point lead before falling 25-22 to Talladega.
Talladega as a team tallied 11 aces while both
Rhyan Clark and
Nuria Santos each finished with three.
Franchesca Rivas paced the Tornadoes with seven kills while teammates
Zariah Messick,
Josephine Gates, and
Marcelly Perez each had four kills apiece.
Giovana Costarelli led the team in assists with 14 of the team's 24 while
Briyith Echeverri was the team leader in digs with 15.
Talladega is back in action tomorrow when it Dillard University at 1 pm and Southern University at New Orleans at 3 pm on day two of the HBCUAC Crossover hosted by Tougaloo.
